How the Italian cooking became famous

Sunday 8 March 2009

Whereas several of the most widely uncontroversial dishes may be a hot fade of or a containerful of pasta, galore much items are there in the Romance cookery. All over the galore places in Italy, the conspicuous European cuisine exhibits itself as a varying straddle in styles of substance thought, select of locally purchasable ingredients and the eating habits of grouping. Romance nutrient is also influenced by the dynamical present, as evinced by the similarities as fortunate as differences between the foods served in the pre-Roman era and the menu of today’s items.

The chronicle of Romance has attained a over a stop of two grand age including the era of the Papistical Empire. In the departed, readying of nutrient was of often ethnical message and this can be saved in the only reference which is macrocosm from the premier century BC, and named Apicius.

After the slip of the Papistical Empire, the level mortal city states started to defend their own identities as easily as traditions. This resulted in a large of Romance dishes, and apiece nation sought to display its various method of substance mentation much as making a meatball, different types of cheeseflower and production of intoxicant in a special section. For example, kine originated from the northbound, whereas Marchez was for shameful truffles. In the southernmost, the provolone and mozzarella types of mallow, as cured as a of citrus fruits were produced.

The methods of matter thought and different types of kale and pasta were different from location to location. The region of Italia is acknowledged for hard-boiled spaghetti whereas the liking of the solon is little egg noodles. Milano is for its risotto, Sausage revels in tortellini and Naples is good celebrated for its pizzas.

In the class of instance the single secernment and bespeak of Romance cookery has been greatly enhanced by the component of a of outer influences. Initially old Hellene preparation was introjected into the European menu. Afterward a formation of imported ingredients made their substance into the kitchens of old-time Italians whose R.c. ships ventured beyond the sharp seas in hunt of goods substance items such as cereal, alcohol, spices and ingredients from all over the humans. Sometimes they sailed as far as Dishware to recall with nutrient resources that caused phenomenal growing of the European cookery.

The regions artificial the coastline are for their search and seafood delicacies. For , Sardegna Island provides a traditional cookery comprising these items from the sea. The Romance of the realm unremarkably covers lobsters, sardines, scombroid, anchovies and others from the Mediterranean. In Island Island untold cookery is myrmecophilous on Northeastward Mortal . Also an Arabian touch is there on the island’s cuisine as well as that of the southbound; a primary soul is the ice take cake of Sicily alter renowned as cassata.

According to arts records, one of the most uncontroversial European nutrient items glorious as pasta was brought from Dishware by Marco Traveller, the merchandiser from Venice. In fact it was a rediscovery of a containerful from the R.c. and Etruscan eras. It is plebeian that pasta was initially prefab same today’s noodles from wheat grain which was oven-cooked rather than cooked.

Nowadays the in Romance cookery continue to be there by differentiating between the northbound and the southland. Every location continues to confirm its someone practice in activity of matter, which shows the society and down every discreetness that is tantalising to the savour buds, specified as the appetizers, principal courses and desserts.

Should Christians Use the Law of Attraction?

Monday 26 January 2009

Thousands of emails poured into Oprah Winfrey’s website after the February 8th show featuring “The Secret” and the . Many wondered whether it was right for a person to use the to direct their lives. Many asked if it was a sin to use this law.

The and the

The is accepted by many to be an inspired collection of historical facts connecting man and . Throughout the , in both the old and new testaments, the can be clearly seen in action.

Before we look closer into biblical examples, lets refresh our minds as to what the is. This universal law states that like attracts like. On a deeper level it proves that everything in the universe is energy. Since thought is a form of energy, anything you on with strong emotional intent, and , you eventually bring into your . Like attracts like.

Therefore if you or energize your thoughts with pictures of poverty and lack, that is what you attract. If you concentrate your thoughts on health and wellbeing, by the you must bring into health and wellbeing.

Genesis

The book of Genesis tells a great story that proves the . Joseph was a young farm boy when he got a dream of being a great King. Of all of Jacobs kids, Joseph was the least likely to become King.

He was the youngest of the family. He had no leadership skills. Even his father and brothers couldn’t see Joseph being a King.

But none of that made a shred of difference because Joseph held the thought of becoming a great leader in his mind so persistently it eventually came to be. Although he suffered numerous , he held firm to his , he held onto that dream until he the great leader he saw in his mind.

That is the in action.

The doesn’t only on bring us good. Anything we give our energized thoughts to, and by energized we are specifically meaning emotionalized thoughts, thoughts mixed with strong like , , , , these will super-charge thought energy and set the in motion.

A clear example of this can be seen in 3:25 when he said, “Because a dreadful thing I have dreaded, it has come upon me. And what I have been scared of comes to me.”

A Christian view

Christianity is based on the teachings of Christ. In one of his sermons directed his followers to ask for what they want with the and that they already had it. In fact he said anything that you ask for in a spirit of and you would get.

Again, this is the in action.

A double edge sword

Like the law of electricity, the is a double edge sword. It can be used for or . Electricity can light up a city and provide much needed energy, or it can snuff out life. Everything is dependent on how we conform to it’s principles of use.

Did design electricity? Did he put it in place for our use? Can it be used for a good outcome or a bad one? Yes, Yes and Yes! Gravity is a natural law. Yet if you don’t use it as it was intended you could fall off a building or a cliff to a disastrous end. However ’s intent was for it to serve us. So it is with the .

It’s interesting to see nature at . When a seed is placed in the soil it doesn’t contain everything it needs to grow and flourish. But by the it draws to itself water, minerals and all else it needs to blossom. This is the wonder and of this amazing law.

We as humans have a great ability no other life on has. The ability to think. A mind with free will. Yet another gift of .

You have the power to design your life and the free will to design it as you wish. Just as intended. What we must all realize is that the will not cease to exist simply because we do not believe in it, or we refuse to utilize it. It has always been there and will always be.

Our only intelligent option is to begin applying it for our growth and betterment. Why not use the to be a better Christian? Why not tap into this powerful law of nature to praise it’s creator? This truly is the only intelligent option.

Olympic Messages to America in Its 2008 Election Year

Wednesday 21 January 2009

The quadrennial Olympics are a snapshot of the world at its best, a portrait of a future in which nations compete as equals in the global arena and individuals metaphorically medal in any number of events. And while the realm of governance is vastly more complex than that of a sports stadium, a number of observations about the global community as seen at the Olympics may be of relevance to Americans preparing to chart the course of their for the next four years by electing a new president.

*First, the Olympics show that youth is good and that elders have nothing to about youthful preeminence. The energetic endurance of youth creates the opportunities for elders to be of relevance. There is no Olympic medalist without a and there are few without supportive .

*The Olympics also show the world as a delightful mix of racially, ethnically, nationally and regionally interconnected . Value are overruled by a visceral reaction to the exquisite capabilities of the .

*Experience is not necessarily an indicator of fitness for performance in Olympic competition. The most seasoned athletes make decisive mistakes. from those errors. Graciousness in accepting and admitting the result is the measure of the to be accorded for performance. Pre-competitive gloating or mudslinging brings the greatest , especially to a .

*The Olympics are globally important enough that the near-200 members of the United Nations overwhelmingly adopted an Olympic Truce in 2007. That agreement to stop hostilities for the two-week period of the Olympic did not deter the Georgians and the Russians from armed engagement. Suicide bombers in were also not bound by the globally accepted compact. The world needs organizations with the teeth to nonviolently sanction those who don’t abide by its standards.

*The Olympics are a showcase for the prowess of attractive, healthy and humans of every , size, color and gender. Performance is a for Olympic competition, which proves that attractiveness need not be a sign of vanity, vapidity or shallowness. The attractiveness of a top performer in any arena is a by-product of the mental, emotional and physical integrity that top- requires.

*The American image that comes across in the Olympic global mix is one of , health, vitality, and good will. It is an image that any nation would be privileged to nurture and foster with the of being assured its grounds for excellence were founded in its appreciation and good use of blessed resources toward good ends.

*The Olympics are a presentation of the world in all its vastness, diversity and glory. Viewership of the events shows Americans are interested in that world beyond their own . The NBC network covering the reports a 16.3 rating and an average of 26.6 million during primetime on a typical weekday night, which is up from a 15.7 rating with 25 million viewers four years ago in Athens.

*NBC’s coverage of the 2008 Olympic has also revealed that America itself has numerous cities and small towns where Olympic-level athletes are trained. In Des Moines, Iowa, for example, American immigrant and -born Liang Chow coached gymnast Shawn Johnson to a 2008 Olympic for nearly ten years. Media of forthcoming national honors on the global stage can be a for America to know itself better.

*Finally, the Olympics show that nationalism is a universal trait, just as is family loyalty, favoritism and support. But the also demonstrate that the huge asset of power to the individual through the team effort of kinship shines only in the global forum. They prove that cooperative competition stirs the blood from individual events to the outcome of the overall.

Public Speaking - Seeing Eye-to-Eye Part II

Tuesday 20 January 2009

In a departure from what you might expect from an article forum, we would like to offer the opportunity for you to take a more interactive approach to learning the of The Skills. Anyone can try these exercises either in their or professional encounters, or both, and better yet, no one need know that they are participants in your learning!

Rather than simply tell you what you should be looking for in these exercises, we think it would be more fun for all involved if we held back a little and let you experience for yourself the most important building block of The Skills.

Modern presentation theory espouses a conversational approach to presenting, because that’s the way to maximize both comfort and trust between you and the . The conversational approach, a modern refinement of the humanist style first made popular in western cultures by president John F. Kennedy, is quite a bit different from the oratory style that most associate with earlier great speakers such as Winston Churchill.

The foundation of the conversational approach is proper eye-, and the nature of that eye- is quite unlike the way 99% of presenters practice. In fact, once you know what to look for, you will that what first differentiates those who have The Skills from those who don’t is the way they engage their audiences with their eyes. Make no , proper eye- is only one component of The Skills, but when you understand exactly how you must look at your to be a great speaker, the other components tend to fall into place.

When you nail down these (surprisingly straightforward) eye techniques, you can deliver to a group of 500 without ever feeling more than you would when discussing your to around a lunch table. Most find that hard to believe until they’ve actually received in The Skills, but when you get it, it’s rather powerful !

These exercises sound simple enough, but they do require a bit of vigilance on your part to have the desired effect. You must practice them at every opportunity for a week or so. At the end of that time you will know what you need to know to move on to the of acquiring The Skills, but only if you make a conscious effort to do what the exercises ask you to do every day.

Exercises:

1. Observe others’ eye . In every situation in which you interact with others, watch their eyes. Observe how long they maintain eye while they are speaking to you. Watch how they maintain eye while speaking to others. As often as you can, count the number of seconds they maintain continuous eye before switching to a new and note this, preferably in a log of some sort.

2. In situations where someone is speaking to a group, again count the number of seconds the speaker maintains eye with each individual. Determine what the average is.

3. Be conscious of your own eye . When speaking with someone, do you stay focused on them? Do you look up, away, or down while speaking? Or do you maintain eye the entire time you are speaking with someone? How often do you move away from eye and then return? Do you look at other for the same when talking to one as when you are talking to many?

If you’ve vigilant in your observations, you’ll probably be very surprised at the hold continuous eye- when speaking. And yet it is this that sets the tone for what makes average speakers average and great ones great.

Motivational Quotes About Aspiration and Life

Tuesday 16 December 2008

When you read a quotation from some enlightened author, you’re getting right down into their best material. There’s no need to sift through hours of pages in order to find the best ; the best is in the quote!

This is why I’ve spent years reading of quotations. Can you imagine the wisdom a person can get from that? Sure, you often have to read boring , but every little while you’ll run into a real good one! And when this happens, your mind is stretched, your eyes are opened, and it can become an amazing intellectual or spiritual experience. And then you start over, because it becomes addictive.

Here are ten motivational based on the topics of aspiration and life that I have always loved. Take the time to dig through them and glean the great lessons that they hold.

1. When a sets out to learn something of his own free will, he marks himself out as an exceptional man. And he begins to rise in the world. -Herbert N. Casson

2. Life is a petty thing unless it is moved by the indomitable urge to extend its boundaries. Only in as we are desirous of living do we really live. - Jose Ortega y Gasset

3. It is asked, how can the laboring man find time for self-culture? I answer that an earnest purpose finds time or makes it. It seizes on spare moments and turns fragments to golden . A man who follows his calling with industry and spirit, and uses his economically, will always have some portion of the day at command. And it is astonishing how fruitful of improvement a short season becomes when eagerly seized and faithfully used. It has often been observed, that those who have the most time at their disposal profit by it the least. A single hour a day, steadily given to the study of some interesting subject, brings unexpected accumulations of . -Channing

4. Restlessness is discontent and discontent is the first necessity of progress. Show me a thoroughly satisfied man and I will show you a . -Thomas Edison

5. I am suffocated and when I have not the bright feeling of progression. -Margaret Fuller

6. I know of no more encouraging fact than the ability of a man to elevate his life by conscious . It is something to paint a particular picture, or to carve a statue, and so make a few objects beautiful. It is far more glorious to carve and paint the very and medium through which we look. This morally we can do. -Thoreau

7. What would be the use of immortality to a person who cannot use well a ? -Emerson

8. Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. . -Mark Twain

9. If one advances confidently in the direction of his , and to live the life which he imagined, he will meet with a unexpected in common hours. In as he simplifies his life, the laws of the universe will appear less complex, and solitude will not be solitude, nor poverty poverty, nor weakness weakness. -Thoreau

Feline Anxiety Causes Cat Litter Box Problems

Wednesday 3 December 2008

Cats experience and get stressed out just like us staffers. Unlike , cats don’t have a of ways to express their . Unfortunately, when cats suffer from and , they generally communicate it in a very clear way that can really turn humans upside down. They usually tell us by not using the cat litter box.

And since we can’t speak meow, and cats don’t talk, the challenge is to figure why our cats aren’t feeling right. Usually when a cat stops using her litter box, it’s a medical problem. But if it isn’t, one of causes high on my list is and .

What do cats get anxious about? Here’s a partial list:

- to a new

- Gaining a new member, animal or

- You change and start a new schedule

- You bring new into your

- Kitty’s favorite person moves out, and she misses that individual

- Construction and/or remodeling of your

- Relocation of her cat litter box(es)

- Change in type of cat litter

This list is not complete. Felines are complicated creatures, and almost anything can set them off.

If your cat suddenly stops using the litter box out of the blue, eliminate any medical causes first. If kitty gets a clean bill of health, examine the list above, and think about any recent changes you’ve made to your . If it appears to be a coincidence, it probably isn’t.

This can be a tough problem to solve, but once you figure out the cause, you can start developing solutions. If the -inducing situation is temporary (such as the last three items on my list), they can be dealt with.

On the other hand, if the problem appears to be one of the first five, you’ll need plenty of and a to get kitty right again.

Often, once kitty gets used to the change, she’ll calm down and start to use her litter box again. During her , it may to confine her to one room with her , water, litter box, bedding, and toys. This limits the amount of damage done to your , and as kitty realizes the changes mean her no harm, she’ll get back to her good cat litter box habits.

You can also help kitty calm down by synthetic feline hormones. These will reassure her that life is still OK. You can also administer homeopathic remedies that are completely natural and cause no side effects.

Many feline owners get an anti- prescription for kitty, but if your cat freaks out over being pilled, this will increase her . If this is the case, rely on the synthetic hormones and homeopathic remedies to solve this problem.

Consult with your vet on the best course of action to help your kitty quickly get over her and . Reassure your cat with lots of extra attention and , and this too shall pass!

Focus, Organization, Productivity - Is There a Unifying Element to Success?

Tuesday 2 December 2008

What?

I at this point in my life, some would say I have gone completely “around the bend” or “over the edge” about this issue of getting more focused, organized and productive. It is no longer just an area of interest for me. It is my , my and pretty much all I want to do for the rest of my life. I believe that studying about and teaching this body of is my true “calling,” and my with this field continues to grow stronger each day.

If you study any topic diligently, sooner or later you begin to see fascinating connections and begin to understand how the various strands of and of information come together at a common point. When this starts to happen, you can’t help but wonder about the unifying of it all. You wonder, “Is there a central idea, concept or focal point that pulls it all together?”

So…is there a focal point or unifying of getting focused, organized and productive? I’m beginning to think there is!

So What?

If you observe highly focused , you can usually track their behavior to the same controlling source. If you trace good organizing habits to their source, you always arrive at the same place. If you track down what makes a person highly productive, once again, you find yourself heading in the same direction. It’s as if you backed down the tracks heading out of New York City until you arrived at their originating point. If you do this, sooner or later, you arrive at or near 42nd Street and Park Avenue…New York’s Grand Central Terminal.

In similar fashion, if you back down the tracks leading to , organization and …they take you to the Grand Central Terminal of beings…the .

I often tell who are struggling to get organized, “If you get your mind right…everything else will begin to easily fall into place.” I suspect most probably pass this off as a casual statement or consider it tired, worn-out . However, in my mind, there is no better I can offer. I have studied this topic for a long, . I am becoming more convinced that the is the focal point that pulls everything together. Therefore, if you understand more about how the works, you will begin to uncover the true secrets of living a more focused, organized and productive life.

Now What?

A friend of mine recently bought a very expensive, very sophisticated . Right after he bought it, we jumped in his car and took a short ride. The car is the high-tech automotive equivalent of a thermos. It knows! Just as a thermos somehow “magically” knows to keep cold things cold, and hot things hot…this car knows how to assess various situations and respond accordingly and appropriately. It has enough buttons, switches, bells, whistles, gadgets and features to keep a rocket scientist happy for quite some time. Fortunately, my friend is a maven with to such matters, and I am convinced he will learn to use all the technological wonders available in his . However, I imagine some will buy a car just like my friend’s and never learn to use a fraction of the gadgets. All the gadgets will be available, ready for use…but they will get little use out of them until they take the time to understand how these features .

In a sense, this is a good metaphor for your . It also has a of interesting bells, whistles, gadgets and features. You increase your ability to take of these wonderful features if you know more about how they . Here are just a few examples:

  • The has three separate systems that either in or compete for over your behavior. One system is in of your automatic functions such as breathing, heartbeat, temperature, , etc. A separate system controls your emotional functions. A third system controls your ability to think and exercise sound . Everything works best when the systems are in balance and working together. When you see someone who is focused, organized and productive, the three systems are operating in . The best way to create balance among the three systems is to pace yourself properly (as opposed to overloading your systems with too much input) and simply think about what you are doing…when you are doing it. Another way of saying this is: Do one thing at a time! Somewhat rare behavior these days. The systems together best when you on one thing at a time.
  • When you begin to overload your systems by multitasking, rushing or operating under too much , your emotional (the limbic system) takes over and starts calling the shots. One part of your emotional (the amygdala) hijacks your body and takes total over your behavior. Although this can be a good thing at times (for example, if you find yourself being chased by a saber-toothed tiger), unlike a thermos, the emotional doesn’t always know how to respond appropriately to incoming messages from your five senses. For example, when the incoming messages indicate a tiger is on your tail, every nonessential system that doesn’t have a to do with in the opposite direction is essentially shut down. One of the first systems to shut down is the thinking system of your (the neocortex). Your emotional basically says, “Don’t think…run!” The good news…we are not chased by tigers very often these days. The …the doesn’t know that. Anytime you operate under too much , the thinks a tiger is on your tail and shuts down the thinking functions of your . In general, when the thinking functions of your are shut down, you default to your habits…good or bad.
  • The moral of this story…if you are going to operate in a state of heightened , you had better install some very in your and nervous system to handle things important to you. That’s why they make pilots, astronauts and military drill on emergency procedures so much. When the amygdala hijacks their bodies, they can still function effectively. Therefore, forming habits is the key to in getting more focused, organized and productive. Planners, file systems, electronic gadgets and gizmos only if the proper habits are formed first.
  • The also houses your system, which operates much like a sophisticated tape recorder. Unlike a regular tape recorder, the ’s system stores both facts and . When things happen to you, a part of your emotional (the hippocampus) records the facts related to what happened and another part (the amygdala, again) records the associated with the facts. When a similar, not necessarily identical, set of facts occur in the future, the tape recorder is turned on and the recorded resurface and strongly influence your behavior. For example, if your scared you as a child by saying, “Don’t talk to strangers,” a little too often with a little too much , you may have trouble being a superstar salesperson as an adult. You’ve probably got a tape that inhibits your ability to perform one of the most critical functions in …talking to strangers. Most have strong tapes related to , taking orders, giving orders, being assertive and other issues related to being a successful businessperson. Some of your tapes serve you well…some don’t! Learning more about your tapes can be an enlightening experience.
  • Although often compare the to a computer, it is really better to think of it more as a chemical factory. All instructions issued by the are carried out by chemicals call neurotransmitters. Therefore, what you eat, how much you exercise, how you breathe, and anything you do that alters the chemicals flowing through your can alter your behavior. Basically, the neurotransmitters through your and nervous system fall into two categories…excitatory or inhibitory. So, take a look at your life speed and figure out if you need to or speed up. Here’s a hint…learning how to breathe properly is a good use of your time if you want to influence neurotransmitters.

I could go on and on about how the , tapes, neurotransmitters and other factors influence behavior. But here’s the main point: If you really want to experience quantum leaps in your ability to get more focused, organized and productive…learn a little more about how your works. When you understand more about how the works, you can actually begin to exercise some measure of over it, especially when you are operating under . Otherwise, it controls you…and you wonder why you intended to do one thing…but did another thing entirely.

Understanding Refrigeration Engineering

Tuesday 2 December 2008

Refrigeration is a surprisingly complex process for what it ultimately does in the end. It takes a of electronics and fluids to properly cool your and resources. All of this is only possible through a number of technological advances that have occurred over the past century. The specifics don’t matter too much to most , but you should understand just how important refrigeration is for trade and as a whole.

All advances in refrigeration are through refrigeration engineering ideas. This is actually a fairly complex area since a whole goes into the ultimate planning. The cooling can occur through a of cooling and heating liquid. For your average refrigeration unit, this won’t be too complex of a process thanks to the wonders of modern technology. The refrigerators used by major businesses are a separate issue though. They often require a special installation and design.

It is important that the engineers know what they’re doing when they are designing a system, because a number of the chemicals commonly used in refrigeration are somewhat dangerous to humans. This means that any flaws in the system could have some fairly serious consequences. A number of industrial units use ammonia refrigeration for their cooling fluids. You probably don’t want this leaking out into your factory.

Is there a good to have such a high level refrigeration unit installed though. Every won’t need such a sophisticated unit. I’m sure that a mini-fridge would do for most offices. These refrigeration units are just to facilitate the storage of perishable goods or so that a day’s doesn’t go down the drain. This in itself may not seem that interesting, but the advancement is really a sign of advancement. Being able to store one’s goods is a clear sign of industrial advancement and growth. Keeping things from spoiling is one of the most essential aspects of trade. It really shows just how far we’ve come as a society when goods can be shipped halfway across the without any real issue.

The good news is that there are a number of sources to find a good refrigeration engineer. If you ever need to have industrial refrigeration put into place, then just take a look around for any local contractors who have previous experience. There are also now for you to find and compare local contractors and engineers so that you can get the most bang for your buck.

Caitlina Fuller is a . All advances in refrigeration are through refrigeration engineering ideas. This is actually a fairly complex area since a whole goes into the ultimate planning. Breathing Tools To Help Control Asthma and Sleep Apnea And Other Breathing Conditions

Sunday 30 November 2008

The Russians do quite well in Olympic swimming, and if one notices, it is apparent that while some others are huffing and puffing through their mouths, many Russian athletes appear to practice exercises similar to Buteyko exercises before sports performances. Just as eating a bowl of spaghetti 15 minutes before an event would be detrimental, so is increasing the breathing. The Russian Natalia Molchanova has broken almost all categories of freediving records, and it is interesting to watch her breathing before a dive, as well as after a dive. Static Apnea also includes minimizing breath.

To put it simply, Buteyko exercises are a set of tools, which allow asthmatics and others who are prone to hypocapnia (deficiency of carbon dioxide in the blood resulting from hyperventilation) caused by overbreathing, to return to stasis without (or with fewer) drugs, under medical supervision. Buteyko breathing exercises recalibrate the baroreceptors and parasympathetic nervous system, allowing for a lower breathing , and more normalized CO2, carbonate and pH levels in the blood, allowing the tissues to utilize oxygen better. Remember using paper bags to stabilize asthmatics? (Do not breathe into a bag without medical supervision!)

Years ago I took a confined space class, and we took turns blowing into an O2 detector after holding our breaths. Most trainees yielded 16-18% O2. I blew a 14% since I held my breath much longer. Assuming that the office had ~19% O2, this taught me that normal breathing is not very efficient, and perhaps has to be inefficient to allow for sufficient tensile strength of lung and vascular tissue, and delicate balance of blood chemicals. It occurred to me that more volume of air passing through the lungs does not necessarily mean that more oxygen is being passed to the bloodstream.

Two days after in the Pacific ocean, I was hiking in the snow up Cotopaxi at about 16,000′ (+4800m) above . My extremely , but asthma-prone girlfriend began having shortness of breath. I also light headed, and began experimenting with my breath as I trekked up the . Several such times I inhaled deeply and compressed my chest with my intercostal (rib) muscles for a long moment. This seemed to help increase my consciousness even after I released the breath, and I realized that I had the power to change my physiologic state quite simply. It clear to me how the mechanics of overbreathing/ heavy breathing and the partial pressure dynamics (elaborated by Buteyko and ) may have much to do with the asthmatic response.

Many now agree that overconsumption of (overeating) does not guarantee more to the tissues, but not many seem to consider respiration in the respiration equation, that overbreathing may play a in respiratory “disease.” In fact, some no longer check respiration during an exam. It is commonly known that increased obesity results in dysfunction, large meals cause blood sugar spikes and accelerators (dieting drugs and supplements) due not increase stasis in tissues, making loss of fat more difficult in the long term. Similarly, overbreathing causes a spiraling of processes which decrease alvioli efficiency, disrupting breathing “calibration” and oxygenation of other tissues, decreasing health and oxygenation. Despite more oxygen entering the lungs, because of the low CO2 level, less oxygen actually makes it to the cells that need it. This overbreathing could be triggered by , , nasal congestion, allergies and other triggers and factors which cause to breathe more frequently and deeply than their body would otherwise. One problem of low CO2 levels is a scientific hypothesis proposed by Artour Rakhimov, PhD, that chronic hyperventilation promotes disease and cancer. Previous research has suggested that chronic hyperventilation washes out CO2 from each cell of the organism. Since CO2 is a dilator of small blood vessels, low CO2 concentrations lead to the constrictions of arterioles causing problems with blood and oxygen delivery.

In addition, low CO2 values cause inability of red blood cells to efficiently release whatever little oxygen they bring (the suppressed Bohr effect). The final outcome is hypoxia in the tissues, including the vital organs.

Some argue that “We are under constant because we don’t breathe enough,” without really measuring the actual volume of gases inhaled. Typically respiratory and volume increase when increases. Even the Johnson & Johnson Company sponsored research by University of Miami School of Medicine (Director Tiffany Field, Ph.D.) shows that massage increased pulmonary function in asthma patients. Once I was at the doctor, and a nurse assistant checked my pulse, bp and respiratory : the assistant reported that I had 18 breaths per minute, however I measured 6-7 breaths. I asked how she measured it, and she stated simply that “everyone has 18-20 breaths.” Such inaccuracy may lead to wrong conclusions by medical staff.

In 2005, the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine reported that “Hypocapnic but Not Metabolic Alkalosis Impairs Alveolar Fluid Reabsorption.” What this means is that a low CO2 level causes blood pH to change, and more fluid build up in the lungs. Thus the more a person breathes, the more CO2escapes, and more fluid may build up in the lungs. Buteyko theory includes the facts of the body’s attempts to regulate carbonates and alkalinity.

Although Buteyko Therapy originated in the Ukraine Forty years ago, and has gained medical acceptance in Russia, Australia, Asia and England, it remains a seldom used “alternative” treatment in the USA. My , John Harris, brought the first Buteyko Therapy Practitioner to the USA in the 1980’s: Rosalba Courtney, ND, DO, DipAc, CA, an Australian osteopath, naturopath, California-certified acupuncturist, and chairperson of the Australasian Buteyko Association. The practice has been taught to many practitioners and countless patients who, under medical supervision, have overcome much or all of their dependence on asthma medications. John is said to breathe 3/min at rest, and 1/min during .

Most practices promote slowed breathing, and can accomplish these effects, when breathing is slowed more in ratio to the metabolic . Vocalizing the typical “oum” slowly while breathing through the nose only, will slow the breathing, and CO2 levels can stabilize toward a normal level. It is the respiratory and partial pressures that mainly how much O2 in the lungs will pass into the blood. Proper singing and playing wind instruments may have similar effects, partly due to the increased partial pressure inside the lungs.

Most Pilates trainers, Yoga instructors and even physicians speak of shallow and deep breathing, but frequently don’t specify breathing , or encourage increased . Some yoga classes sound like an aerospace wind tunnel. However experienced yogis are rarely seen panting, and even with Ujjayi Pranayama, they breathe s-l-o-w-l-y, which along with the of Ujjayi, causes partial pressure inside the lungs to absorb more of the oxygen while keeping enough carbon dioxide to maintain balance. Have you ever seen a Buddhist monk panting? Have you noticed that healthy older do not breathe noticeably?

By slowing breathing to more fully utilize O2 efficiency and not depleting CO2 levels necessary for proper muscle and lung physiology, Buteyko breathing is said to enhance performance. Traditional Pilates and certain specific yoga practices that encourage faster breathing rates thus may cause an opposite effect. After I began to master these techniques, my breathing slowed during my workouts, and my efficiency increased. I learned that if my mouth would open during a run, it was time to back off, slow the exhale, until my efficiency increased again. Once you open the mouth, the breathing efficiency goes down the toilet. Now if a sprint is required, forget the rules, and when activity slows, then immediately slow the breath. Watch a video of Natalia Molchanova, world record freediver, and see how slowly she breathes after swimming under water for several minutes. I have also found that “catching” the breath only throws the balance off.

Since this also affects blood pressure, a US Patent has been issued for use to hypertension. The American Lung Association has informed me that since most research has been in Russia and Australia, they are waiting for more USA trials on Buteyko before they comment or promote it for asthma.

One day I was examining the lungs of a cadaver and noticed that significantly diseased lungs with a fraction of their original available surface area still kept the person alive. Later that day as I was swimming (controlled breathing exercise, right?) I experimented with different breathing depths and rates, and thought of Buteyko’s theory, and that wide ranges of breathing patterns may have strong effects on what the lungs pass to and from the bloodstream, and resultant physiological responses. Apparently humans are overdesigned in many ways, thus improper function may occur for long before symptoms become apparent, and finally nudge a person to submit to crisis- allopathy.

About ten months after NPR, and eight months after Oprah Winfrey started a neti bowl craze, I noticed that neti bowls were more popular on the net, but at a drugstore I asked two pharmacists for “nasal irrigation such as neti bowl or neti pot” and they did not know what it was. I was promptly shown the medications section, and then I found and showed the pharmacist a plastic irrigation bottle which the store carried.

One day I was swimming in the ocean with a tight wetsuit for about 45 minutes, I then swam to the beach and all of a sudden, I noticed that my breathing was still rapid although my effort was decreasing as I rode some in. I began to overventilate, and experienced my first taste of pre-asthmatic behavior.

I was in a yoga class, and the instructor was discussing Pranic Breathing. He said that he would demonstrate, but that it may cause him to start coughing. I wondered why anyone would practice a breathing type that would cause coughing?

At the 2007 IDEA Conference, I began a test for O2/ CO2 output, but the test was suspended because the machine kept turning off due to my breathing of 6-7 breaths per minute. The tester stated that I had to breathe at least 10 breaths per minute to keep the machine on! I decided to abandon the test.

Manual Bodywork can also help stabilize body systems by assisting the parasympathetic system to . Nevertheless, always consult a medical doctor before beginning or changing an exercise or treatment program, or when you have new symptoms.

Mantle Cell Lymphoma

Sunday 30 November 2008

Examined under the microscope, the Mantle cell lymphoma appears as an expansion of the mantle zone area of the lymph nodes. It is represented by a homogenous of malignant small lymphoid cells, which are cancerous cells that from the bone marrow to the lymph nodes and spleen. They are different from the normal lymphocytes, they are not mature properly. Mantle cell lymphoma is a rare type of Non- hodgkin’s lymphoma.

The lymphocytes are white blood cells produced by the immune system of the body. Regarding their origin, there are two types of immune cells, the B cells which are made in the bone marrow and the T cells which are made in the thymus. After they are made they are eliminated in the lymph which is a clear liquid that bathes tissues and circulates in the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system in the place where occur the cancers known as lymphomas. If the B cells are affected there can be a Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma which include follicular lymphomas, small non-cleaved cell lymphomas (Burkitt’s lymphomas), marginal zone lymphomas (MALT lymphomas), small lymphocyte lymphomas, large cell lymphomas. In this category of diseases is included the mantle cell lymphomas too.

At the beginning, the MCL cells develops in limited areas. Regarding this aspect there are three subsets of MCL cells: the mantle zone type, the nodular type and the blastic or immature type. In the most cases these various types develop together and the diagnoses are of mixed mantle and nodular type. During the development of the MCL the non-cancerous mantle centers also become invaded by cancerous cells. In about 20% of these cases, the cells become larger and they are imature ones.

As it is initially slow-growing, this type of cancer it was first believed to be a low-grade cancer, but the average survival it was substantially shortened. Because of the mixed nature of MCL cells, specialists tend to give this disease a new classification. The of the blastic type of cells is considered as a high-grade cancer because it spreads at about the of other lymphomas belonging to that category. It is very important to describe the precise nature of these cells, because this may help specialists involved in the study of MCL to get to an agreement.

Mantle cell lymphoma affects persons with ages between 50 - 70 years and it is diagnosed more frequently in women. This type of cancer has the shortest average survival of all lymphomas.

Nowadays the cause of MCL is unknown. It has many symptoms that appears in other lymphomas too. Patients generally complain of fatigue, low grade fevers, night sweats, weight loss, anemia, rashes, digestive disturbances, chronic sinus irritation, recurrent infections, sore throat, shortness of breath, muscle and bone aches and edema. A more specific symptom is the spleen enlargement. This clinical aspect is present especially in the nodular type of MCL. An early stage is the swollen lymph nodes. At the beginning this has no explanation because the general health of the patient is good. Anemia is another syptom that characterizes MCL, but it is a mild type of anemia. Some patients can also report lower back pain and burning pain in the legs and testicles. In an advanced stage of the MCL the lymph nodes increase in volume, the general health is compromised and the symptoms become more pronounced. In the end stage the MCL spreads to the central nervous system and appear the neurological symptoms.

As MCL is very similar to several other lymphoma types, imunologic tests are recommended for a correct diagnosis. One of this kind of tests is Immunophenotyping which determine what kind of surface are present on cells, and which is the exact type of lymphoma, from a tissue sample.

When the diagnosis is sure it must be known that mantle cell lymphoma has already spread into many other tissues such as the lymph nodes, spleen, bone marrow or to the ring of adenoid, palatine and lingual tonsils at the back of the mouth or even to the tract. If the MCL spread to the colon it is diagnosed as multiple lymphomatous polyposis.

The treatment for MCL is established depending on the type of MCL and it stage.

There is no standard treatment for MCL patients. The patients diagnosed with MCL have been treated with surgery, radiation, single drug or combination chemotherapy and stem cell transplants. The most common chemotherapy regimens for treating MCL includes the drugs: Cyclophosphamide (cytoxan, neosar), adriamycin (doxorubicin or Hydroxydoxorubicin), vincristine (Oncovin), and Prednisone and it is called CHOP.
